Fine art photography St Austell
Accurate colour and glare-free painting captures — fine art photography St Austell for artists such as Laurence Jones.
Fine art painting photography for Laurence Jones
On 6 January 2016 I photographed large-scale fine art paintings by Laurence Jones in his studio, ready for the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair. JawPhotography, based in St Austell, Cornwall, still offers the same careful artwork photography for artists across Cornwall and beyond.
The job needed precise placement of lights and camera to remove reflections and glare on shiny paint surfaces.
After coffee and a creative chat we started with the largest pieces. Many paintings were very large and needed careful handling onto the studio walls. I used a 50mm f/1.4 prime on a Nikon D810 at ISO 64 for the cleanest possible files. Two soft 500W strobes at matching angles cut hotspots. A tripod and a three-second delayed shutter kept every brush stroke sharp. Grey and white cards sat beside each painting for accurate colour in Lightroom and Photoshop.
We photographed eight paintings in RAW. Files were processed in Lightroom, then cropped and gently colour-corrected on a freshly profiled monitor so tones and brush strokes matched the originals.
It was a pleasure to photograph Laurence’s work, and the same approach underpins fine art photography St Austell commissions from our Cornwall base today. See our artwork photography page or get in touch.
